Origin:
Shizuoka Prefecture, Kagegawa Town
Kakegawa is a city in Shizuoka Prefecture known for its tea cultivation and especially for the production of high-quality matcha. The region offers ideal climatic conditions for tea cultivation, including a balanced amount of sunlight, rainfall and a suitable temperature.
The tea plantations in Kakegawa are spread over rolling hills and fertile soils rich in minerals. The farmers use traditional farming methods and are dedicated to carefully tending the tea plants to obtain the best leaves for matcha production.
Matcha tea cultivation in Kakegawa follows a special process in which the tea leaves are shaded for about 20 days before harvesting. This gives the leaves their characteristic dark green color and develops an intense aroma as well as a high content of chlorophyll and amino acids.
Sustainable production
The tea farmers in Kakegawa place great importance on sustainability and organic farming. Many of them have switched to organic farming to ensure that the tea is free of pesticides and chemicals. This creates a high-quality matcha tea that is not only delicious but also beneficial to health.
The Kakegawa region prides itself on its long tradition of tea cultivation and has become an important center for matcha production and tea ceremonies. Many visitors travel there to experience the beauty of the tea plantations, participate in tea ceremonies and enjoy the region's authentic matcha products.
3 reasons to switch to Matcha:
-
1. Long-lasting energy for the whole day
One serving of matcha contains 30 mg of slow-release caffeine, providing balanced energy throughout the day without the typical afternoon slump.
-
2. Improved concentration
One serving of matcha provides 14 mg of the amino acid L-theanine, which activates alpha brainwaves in the brain. This promotes concentration and focus, allowing you to stay productive throughout the day.
-
3. Strengthening the immune system
One serving of matcha contains 350 mg of catechin antioxidants – that’s 10 times more than in regular green tea. These support and promote a healthy immune system.
What is Matcha?
Matcha is a special green tea from Japan that is made from the leaves of the tea plant Camellia sinensis. Before harvesting, the leaves are shaded, which causes them to produce more chlorophyll and amino acids, which gives the tea its bright green color and intense flavor. After harvesting, the leaves are steamed, dried and ground into powder. This powder is poured over with hot water and traditionally whipped with a bamboo whisk. Matcha has a long tradition in the Japanese tea ceremony and is now also used in cooking and in drinks around the world.
